Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where is the Orange County Great Park?
The Orange County Great Park is located in the geographic center of Orange County.  The Great Park can be reached directly by the I-5, 405 and 133 freeways and the Foothill Transportation Corridor.

Who will develop and maintain the Great Park?
The Orange County Great Park Corporation is responsible for developing and maintaining the park. The OCGPC Board of Directors consists of the five members of the Irvine City Council and four independent directors from throughout Orange County. The Board meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 1pm in the Council Chambers at the Irvine Civic Center.

When will the Great Park be built?
Construction is already underway.  The first major feature, the Great Orange Balloon, is now open. For more information on it and the Visitors' Center, please visit http://www.greatparkballoon.org.

Who will pay for Great Park construction?
The construction of the Great Park will be paid for through Development Agreement fees and Community Facility District assessments with no cost to local taxpayers.  $200 million in development agreement fees will be paid by Lennar Corporation, the purchaser of the El Toro property.  The Community Facility District assessments will be paid by future property owners. This financing plan ensures that the Great Park will be developed at no cost to local taxpayers.

Who will decide what will be in the Great Park?
The Great Park Corporation has conducted a far-reaching public outreach program soliciting input from residents throughout Orange County on the facilities and features they would like to see in the Great Park.

How will the Museum District be developed?
The Museum District will likely be the last area to be developed. Non-profit and private entities will need to propose ideas for museums and museum facilities to the Corporation Board. Great Park funds will be used to prepare the Museum District for development, providing all necessary infrastructure, but museum facilities, including buildings and collections, will be privately financed.

How can I keep up with Great Park news and get involved?
The Great Park Corporation holds monthly meeting at Irvine City Hall that the public is invited to attend. Meeting times and additional Great Park information can be found here on our web site.
